Write It Down: Your Baby's First Year (Free Printable)
Right now, you probably think you'll remember all of it. The face your baby makes right before a sneeze. The song that finally worked at 2 a.m. The nickname that started as a joke and stuck.
Some of it will stay. But the first year is full, and every week brings something new. A new first moves in, and last month's quietly slides to the back. That's not you missing anything. That's you busy loving a baby and getting through the days.
Writing a little down now is a gift to future you (and maybe to your kid someday).

Why now, not "when things calm down"
There's always a reason to wait: after the laundry, after the holidays, after you finally sleep. Then a few months go by.
You don't need a calmer season. You need a few minutes and a page. And it doesn't have to be polished:
"She laughed at the dog for the first time. We were all on the kitchen floor."
That's a whole memory, in one sentence. Nobody else will remember exactly how your baby fell asleep on your shoulder that rainy afternoon. Write it down, and it stays.
It doesn't have to be a perfect baby book
A lot of us have a baby book with three pages filled in and the rest blank. If that's you, you're in very good company. Blank pages are not a grade on your parenting.
Let "a little" count. A few lines, or a photo with one note, is plenty.
Missed a month (or five)? Start with this one. Go back later, or don't.
There's no right way. Only your way, at your pace.
Quick ways to keep the memories
Pick a "memory day." Five minutes, once a month. Baby's birth date works (the 14th becomes memory day), or the first Sunday. Whatever you'll actually remember.
Add one line to a photo. Where you were, who was there, what made you laugh. The photo shows what happened. The note tells you why it mattered.
Catch firsts in your notes app. Firsts don't wait for memory day. Type one quick line, copy it over later. Every baby does things in their own time, so there's no wrong month for any first.
Save the holidays. First holidays are a little chaotic, and that's the story. Write down the outfit, who held the baby, and the nap they took right through the big moment.
Keep the ordinary days. The bath-time song. A regular Tuesday. The way your baby grabs your hair. These are the easiest to lose and the sweetest to find later.
Pass the pen. A partner, grandparent, friend, or older sibling with a crayon can add a line or a drawing. Doing this on your own? Your voice is plenty.
